The Standard of Ur (2600–2400 B.C.E.) is a remarkable piece of storytelling art from Ancient Mesopotamia. One side shows civilisation in a time of prosperity and peace, the other side in a time of destruction and war. I love looking at these images, admiring the mosaic panels, but I also wonder: where are the women?
