You have a rare and precious gift, Elif. All the universe asks is for you to share it. I don't know whether you'll make a difference.. I do know you won't score a goal, unless you shoot at it.
Small acts of kindness, small acts of rebellion and small acts of creativity bind the world together. Or to quote Bob Dylan "The only thing I knew how to do was to keep on keeping on.."
Yes. We must create. I wrote it in a comment today somewhere else (it’s amazing how a specific topic sometimes pops up from many sources) that the world has been “going to shit” since forever! Our only factor to account for is our inspiration, Muse, God, daemon, or whatever.
Distruction, hate and conformity are so easy, almost anyone can get dragged along. It takes a strong mind to be positive and creative, especially in the darkest time before the light. Thanx
Oh hell, this was my morning too. And then I listened to Brene Brown about 'showing up' and I guess I will show up again tomorrow with a new post because that is what I said I would do. Maybe, just maybe, the words we write are a comfort/help/amusement to others. Thank you Elif.
There are many points in history that people could arguably call the worst or most diffunctional times and now is certainly one of them. I read the daily news with sadness and disgust for what our government has become and what we've become as a nation. We now have the government we voted for and while I had hoped we were better, clearly we are not!
I'm fortunate to be retired and own my own home. These days I don't travel far and spend more and more time at home with my wife. The world feels like it's unraveling and I don't want to stray too far from home. I'm recovering from a serious health issue and just getting back to writing. It's the one way I can keep my sanity vs spending my days doom scrolling the news.
We will eventually recover from the current insanity, though I fear things will get worse before they get better. I continue to write, engage with like minded people, and just try to be decent to my fellow man. Stay safe, stay sane, and be nice to others even when it's difficult.
Mahatma Gandhi said: “It's the action, not the fruit of the action, that's important. You have to do the right thing. It may not be in your power, may not be in your time, that there'll be any fruit. But that doesn't mean you stop doing the right thing. You may never know what results come from your action. But if you do nothing, there will be no result.”
As always, they deeply resonate and remind us that whilst we feel overwhelmed by current situations, many in the past experienced much greater trauma. Thank you for reminding us of the importance of perspective and the need to hold fast to what we believe and to strive for truth and justice in whatever spheres we inhabit. You are truly an inspiration... Thank you!
Sometimes writing feels pointless, but then a line hits you, or a story moves you, and you remember , this is how we make sense of the chaos. Keep writing, even when it feels like a dog’s life. The world needss it

Sometimes comparing present times to the past helps me get through the day.
I needed this! The world needs this.
All of us that are somehow sheltered (for now) from the worst of our times need to fight with the tools we’ve got.
And here’s a bit of Marge Piercy for us - good work is dog’s work, not glamorous but real ✨
TO BE OF USE (Marge Piercy)
The people I love the best
jump into work head first
without dallying in the shallows
and swim off with sure strokes almost out of sight.
They seem to become natives of that element,
the black sleek heads of seals
bouncing like half-submerged balls.
I love people who harness themselves, an ox to a heavy cart,
who pull like water buffalo, with massive patience,
who strain in the mud and the muck to move things forward,
who do what has to be done, again and again.
I want to be with people who submerge
in the task, who go into the fields to harvest
and work in a row and pass the bags along,
who are not parlor generals and field deserters
but move in a common rhythm
when the food must come in or the fire be put out.
The work of the world is common as mud.
Botched, it smears the hands, crumbles to dust.
But the thing worth doing well done
has a shape that satisfies, clean and evident.
Greek amphoras for wine or oil,
Hopi vases that held corn, are put in museums
but you know they were made to be used.
The pitcher cries for water to carry
and a person for work that is real.
Thank you Maria. Thinking today of my dairy farming family. Those cows had to be milked, every day. No matter what!
Thank you, Christine! That’s the kind of marvellous work that keeps us grounded! 💛✨

Knocking on the wall, in solidarity, sisterhood and ink X

Humbling, isn’t it?
I once came across two questions that changed my perspective, and therefore my life:
What if you are not here to fix the world?
What if the world is here to fix you?
Oh my goodness, this is beautiful. These questions will stay with me. Thank you, 3muses.
This is a brilliant way of looking at things!
Nodding as I sit on my sofa and sip my strong, hot coffee. Thank you Elif. As always.

Writing is the ultimate act of resistance. One that can carry forward the stories of our times for eternity...
